A Divine Image
Cruelty has a Human Heart
And Jealousy a Human Face
Terror the Human Form Divine
And Secrecy, the Human Dress
The Human Dress, is forged Iron
The Human Form, a fiery Forge.
The Human Face, a Furnace seal'd
The Human Heart, its hungry Gorge.

Hello Friends,
William Blake grapples with what it means for humans to be made in God's image in several of his works in Songs of Experience (1794). I am particularly struck in this poem that poets have been comparing the human heart to a gorge for hundreds of years.
