About This Blog

Each April, I celebrate National Poetry Month by sharing some of what I love about poetry through a series of 30 poems — one poem per day, delivered to your email inbox, from April 1 - 30. That makes for 30 days, 30 poems, and 30 poets. In 2012, I also converted my poem-a-day email series to this blog format.

My poem-a-day series is strictly for personal use only; I cherish the freedom to choose whichever poems I want to include, as well as the freedom to include commentary, analysis, personal stories, and other tidbits to make poetry more accessible. In almost all cases, I do not have poets’ nor poetry publishers’ permission to reproduce their work. I frequently refer my audience the Academy of American Poets (poets.org), the creators and sponsors of National Poetry Month, for a more official poem-a-day email list.

Mysteries

Your eyes are widely open flowers.
Only their centers are darkly clenched
To conceal Mysteries
That lure me to a keener blooming
Than I know,
And promise a secret
I must have.
